Sharkteeth-isms

Minsang breakfast ni Sharkteeth (before school), I was browsing Solenn's Instagram...
Me:  I'm such a fan of Solenn.
Sharkteeth: Why?
Me: Well, she's beautiful and very confident.
Sharkteeth: What else?
Me: She's very talented. [I showed her Solenn's paintings.]
Sharkteeth: Now, I too am a fan.
Me: She has a very handsome fiancé.
Sharkteeth: But you have Deden.

You have to agree, she KNOWS which side of the bread to butter. :)

Minsan sa mall, after eating...
Me: Can we browse in the department store a bit?
Sharkteeth: Sure. C'mon, you can choose a gift for your birthday.
Me: Well, in that case, let's go to the second floor where the jewelry shops are.
Sharkteeth: Oh, no, we're just going to the clearance aisle.

So, you know now that I'm not the side of the bread that is buttered.

Again, usapang birthday...

Sharkteeth: What do you want for your birthday?
Me: Not much. Just a clean and organized house. Maybe you and Deden can...
Sharkteeth: I said a birthday gift, not a MIRACLE.

Am I asking for too much? Am I?
Related note: May bago kaming helper. She's very masipag, may utak, may kusa, hindi chatty. I love her. I did get my birthday wish, after all. Huwag sanang mausog.

Overheard, after kong utusan si Sharkteeth for the n-th time that day...
Sharkteeth: [mimicking a Nat Geo voice-over] The Samosaurus will surely face the brink of death and extinction because of the never-ending orders from the growling and terrifying Bossy Rex.

Am I terrifying? Am I? I'm such a Care Bear kaya...with fangs.

♥♥♥

S and I were chatting yesterday and she said that everybody's spoiling her with gifts. *Thank you all for the kind gifts and greetings. So grateful.* I said, "I hope it won't turn you SELFISH."

Upon hearing the word selfish, hayun na. Lumabas ang lahat ng hugot.

Eto ang soliloquy...

"You know, when I don't lend my iPad to J, he calls me 'selfish'. He once told me, 'I haven't done anything bad to you, why are you treating me this way?' And I said, 'EXCUUUUSSSEE ME, I have a list of all the things you did to me!' [may matching nanlilisik na mata] And he replied, 'Let's not talk about the past. Forgive and forget.' But I can't forget. It's all in here [points to her head]."

Hays, there are times when I look at her, seeking a reflection of myself and don't find any. At all. Yet there are times when hints of little habits and mannerisms, and unfortunately bad ugali that I vainly try to hide from her (like being vindictive and unforgiving), faintly manifest, reminding me that she is her mother's daughter. We're both works in progress.

Practical Happiness

You know the feeling...may mga araw when you simply don't feel positive or happy. When you feel like Charlie Brown or Lady Edith. When all you want to do is curl up in your bed.

Pa'no bang maging masaya?

Much as I want to dish off my usual crappy banal lines, like "The fact na nagising ka kaninang umaga is a reason for happiness" or "Having [insert something obvious, like kids, wealth, roof over your head, food] is happiness in itself", we all know that doesn't work. If you're anything like me, self-help books never help either. Pagbukas ko pa lang ng book, my eyes glaze over and my mind flies. Motivational seminars neither work. I'd get so pumped up at first, but the glow of the inspirational talk seems to fade as quickly as the seminar is over. Plus paying for a pep talk seems stupid for a kuripot person like me.

Paano nga ba?

Another Yaya Saga

I'm beginning to think my house is standing atop a ginornous block of rose quartz. Remember when my nanny got pregnant by the village electrician? Then I had this other nanny, a 43-year-old widow who got a 30+-year-old boyfriend? And now, here's another yaya saga.

I'm a bit near-sighted and I don't see well in the dark, and I was aghast when I opened our backdoor and I saw a man sitting outside our house, very near the door, in the darkness. I asked him why he was there and he told me that he wanted to talk with my nanny. I immediately closed the door behind me and questioned the yaya. She replied that the guy is the uncle of a cousin. I sensed something fishy and continued to ask, badger, ask, badger, and this went on for a while till she admitted that he used to be her boyfriend back when she was 14. Mind you that this guy came all the way from Negros and worked as a carpenter here in the village so he could continue the relationship that ended 5 years ago. Psycho-stalker alert! But the thing is, our nanny is having none of that. And the guy apparently couldn't take no for an answer. What galled and ticked me off bigtime was that he tried to enter the house forcibly! And my daughter was there! And he even had the temerity to come back skulking in the dark after I asked him to leave! Armed with MACE™, I marched outside (stupid move, I know) and shouted. I even had to call the village security. He's gone for now, but this is really unnerving for me. TheHusband is working nights, and we have yet to buy a gun, and I'm really worried for the safety of the nanny and my daughter. Oh, I can sense a terrible migraine coming.

If only the darned rose quartz is an oil well instead.

Forgive Me, I'll Be A Bit Passive-Aggressive For A Moment

Despite your protestations of your so-called innocence, the question remains: Why were you snooping on my cubicle? Pray tell.
