10 Dove Street

Façade (from 10 Dove Street's Facebook page)

For TheHusband's birthday dinner, we went to 10 Dove Street. I read Leah's review of the place, which  convinced me to try out the place. It was a good thing I checked out the place's Facebook page, otherwise, we would have gone to Banilad. It transferred to Mandaue just a few days before we went there. The place is cozy, and it has one of the most charming decorations I've seen, you know, it's pretty yet homey, unlike some places that are, yes, very beautiful, but seem to have a snooty air.

Bird cages. "10 Dove Street." Get it? ;)

I messaged ahead for a reservation for 6 pm, but we ate a late lunch that day, so I had to reschedule for a later time. Thankfully, they weren't fussy about rescheduling. We got there around 7:30 pm, and there was a table reserved for us.

We got the set meal, with soup, entree, and dessert. *Sorry, no food pictures. It embarrasses me a bit to be taking pictures of food in restaurants.* They have the most delicious soups -- clam chowder for Sharkteeth, crab and corn for TheHusband, and French onion for me. Fussy eater that she is, S didn't like hers, so she got my French onion soup instead (*longing look* at my French onion soup. haaaayyy...).

For the entree, S ordered sausage and slaw ("Choice of Hungarian or Cheese Krainer with a side serving of tangy slaw salad. Served with bread or rice."), choosing Hungarian sausage over cheese Krainer. The sausage was huge, and I do mean huge. She was raving about it during the whole meal. TheHusband had the Chef’s Choice ("A hefty serving of beef pastrami, roasted peppers, caramelized onions, cheese and pickles."). He was a bit disappointed though -- while tasty, it wasn't as hefty as he expected; there was only one layer of pastrami, which was of regular thickness. I ordered  roast beef Dylan ("Thinly sliced tender roast beef smothered with sautéed onions and mushrooms and topped with melted cheese. Served with bread or rice."), and it was satisfying, but a bit sweetish.

When it was time for dessert, we were already so full and just ordered our cake for takeaway. I ordered two slices of green tea and another that I cannot remember anymore. I didn't like the green tea cake because it has a bit of tartness. I ordered a whole round chocolate cake with candles for TheHusband. It was funny odd because the waiter went to ask me if I prefer ordinary birthday candles or number candles, and I chose the latter and gave TheHusband's age. When he came bearing the cake, singing Happy Birthday, there was only one birthday candle! Ewan ko ba sa kanila! Hahahahaha! Another thing, when the bill came in, we were charged 650 for the round cake, which was supposed to be 600 only, per the text reply to my inquiry a day before. When I asked about it, the waiter said that the price was increased. I wanted to show the text reply, but TheHusband didn't want to raise a fuss over fifty pesos. Anyway, the chocolate cake was so worth it, even the additional 50 pesos (parang meron pang hindi over sa fifty. hahahaha! #OA). Seriously, it was really worth it. It had a very thick fudgy chocolate layer, and a week later, it was still as delicious and moist. I was sad when it was all gone.

The staff were all courteous and polite, and they have a strong online and "e-presence" (yes, I deem it a word now). They replied immediately to FB messages, and they corresponded via mobile as well, even in the middle of the night. Their pricing is very reasonable. I wanted to say cheap, but the word might bring a negative connotation, besides, somebody from 10 Dove might read this and increase their price, heaven forbid. The clientele is nice -- hindi maiingay. (Tumatanda na talaga ako. I couldn't bear eating in a noisy place anymore. Unless ako ang gumagawa ng noise. Hahahaha!) Of course, there was cheerful chattering around, but it was all  light and not annoying. The place is very photogenic, and most groups had their pictures taken. The waiter who attended us is very adept at taking pictures, not just of the group, but of the place as well. Nakukuha nya ang ganda nung lugar. The place is well lighted, and that's great because I hate eating in dark/dim restaurants (sabi kasi ng mommy ko nung bata pa ako pag daw kumakain sa madilim sasaluhan ako ng demonyo. #Utu-uto). Another thing,  the soft tone of the lights, as well as the creamy white walls, was very flattering to the skin -- gumanda ako! (Didn't post my pictures anymore, baka may kumontra pa. hahahaha!)

Overall, it was a delightful dining experience, and it's likely what we'll be back.

  1. Walang free na birthday cake? Though of course free means one slice. Funny about the candle. :)

  2. Even though you don't have photos of the food... natomguts na aketch haha And I agree with the "e-presence" In my opinion, restaurants and other business establishments who build FB pages are obliged to answer queries, at ang lead time ay 30 minutes :) I know a lot of great businesses who are so poor in "e-presence." The mean girl in me would like to say, wag na kayo mag FB kung hindi din kayo responsive at interactive haha

Belated happy birthday to the husband! And sana nga makapunta ako sa Dumaguete... ihanda mo na yung isang box ko ha ahahaha #alamMoNa

  3. You're right when you said "wag na kayo mag FB kung hindi din kayo responsive at interactive." There's no point in a business having websites and all if they're not responsive to queries. And it's one of my pet peeves, lalo na sa Ebay transactions.

TheHusband thanks you. We had a celebration kahapon for his officemates.

If you're planning to go to Oslob, Cebu, for some swimming with the whale sharks, it's closer to Dumaguete than to Cebu City. Hihintayin kita with a box of you-know-what. Teka, why are we referring to it like it's illegal? Hahahaha!

    1. Thank you! I so want to go back there, even for the French onion soup alone. Have you tried Friday's French onion soup?

I'd love to hear from you, good or bad. And remember, if you can dish it, you better be able to take it!
