A Lovely Sunny Day By Zachary Levi And Bert

The Unbored Diva tweeted about this video -- not only did I enjoy it (seriously, there's no way you cannot enjoy it. Zachary Levi is there. Bert is there. ), it served as a wake-up call to me. There are times, often times, we'd be having a fancy dinner or a delighful breakfast, yet instead of a conversation, TheHusband and Sharkteeth would be playing Hay Day, while I'd be busy with Instagram and Facebook. Since when did we turn to THAT kind of people? You know, people always looking down at their phones.

Admittedly, for me, it started when TheHusband gave me his iPhone. But I've been long wary of technology -- not technology per se, but the diminishing human touch it brings. I remember bringing Sharkteeth to school for the first time and taking so many pictures, but eventually I stopped and just took everything in, filed, absorbed, and stored in a little corner of my mind. I don't want to have the picture but not the memory -- of that time they sang out of tune. Or the time the recited poetry. Or danced, and she was hilariously turning left when everyone was turning right. (S, you are truly your mother's daughter.)

I do not want to live my life in Facebook, for all others to see. And conversely, I don't want to see the entire lives of my friends, and enemies, on Facebook either, 'cause does one ever really post an ugly selfie, or a fattie picture, or that credit card bill for those clothes and accessories for the OOTD post? Well, honestly, yes, I've seen it lots of times, but generally, Facebook lives are today's fairy tales, the prince and the princess kissing, the happy ever after.

I'm rambling, and hitting a point different from
, albeit related with, the one in Zachary and Bert's video, let's just go back at the video...here with the full lyrics.

Every day I sit right there
Sit and stare and check my Facebook, Email, Instagram
Chatting with my friends and making plans.
But on days with lots of sun
I say goodbye to everyone online
And say hello, cuz I know there's a place where all the

Bees are always buzzing 'bout the flowers they have seen.
And every tree is trending,
I don't miss my little screen, because
The sky won't need a filter
And the birds tweet just to say:
You should really take a walk on this lovely
sunny day.

In the park I reconnect
Take some time to self-reflect
Yo, this Snapchat is going to be cray!
No hashtag selfie, put that thing away.
The pigeons make it feel like home
Follow me and we can can roam
Across the grass and see
That now we're running faster than 4G!

On the playground there's a million games to play.
We don't need a fancy tablet with a
retina display.

Because...

The Bees are always buzzing 'bout the flowers they have seen.
And every tree is trending,
I don't miss my little screen, because
The sky won't need a filter
And the birds tweet just to say:
You should really take a walk on this lovely
sunny day.

Just look up and there will be
Bright blue skies, don't need a
Weather app to tell you that.
Subscription to this cloud is free.

Bees are always buzzing 'bout the flowers they have seen.
And every tree is trending,
I don't miss my little screen, because
The sky won't need a filter
And the birds tweet just to say:

You should really take a walk on this lovely
sunny day.

No, the irony of this video nor of this blog entry being in the Internet is not lost on me, but the message stays the same: life is best lived with actual people in the actual world.

PS
Now where can I get Zachary Levi's shirt?

  1. Panjee Gonzalez said as much about taking pictures. Tendency is that one is not in the moment because one is busy taking pictures. Maybe fewer pictures then because sometimes, our memory banks fail us until we see a photo of a particular memory?

  3. So true! At the workplace, I get turned off by colleagues who can't seem to take their fingers off their humongous Samsung phones or iPhones. I find it so rude especially during meetings or those rare times when we share great food. I once had a Boss who got pissed off and "walked out" because his lunch buddies were taking advantage of the strong wifi connection. I overheard one of his friends asking, "bakit ka ba nagalit?" Ang sarap lang @#$& never mind haha Ang mean girl ko na tuloy haha

I will share this on FB (patama, joke hahaha)

  4. Diane, rightly so. Nakakainis naman kasi talaga yun ganun. But honestly, my phone is my escape when with terrible company or in awkward situations. Hehehehe

I'd love to hear from you, good or bad. And remember, if you can dish it, you better be able to take it!
