Mga Istoryang Sinauna: TPS, The Singer(?)

Kapag Semana Santa, may Pabása dun sa barrio namin. It usually starts on Holy Wednesday and closes on Good Friday. Pag closing na, may election ng next year's organizers and, well, may open mike.

Ako, alam naman ng lahat, kapal-fez talaga -- nag-volunteer akong kumanta!!! I was about 5 or 6 then. Ang kinanta ko ay Kapantay ay Langit, Sinta. Bigay na bigay ako. The thing is, alam din naman ng lahat na sintunado ako. Hihihihihihi!

Channeling Pilita Corrales...

Mahal kita, kapantay ay langit sinta
At lagi kong dasal sa Maykapal
Ang lumigaya ka
Kahit ngayon, mayroon ka nang ibang mahal
Hinding-hindi pa rin ako magdaramdam

It must have been a mortifying moment for my parents, fully knowing na isang pamilya kami ng sintunado.

I don't even remember how the crowd reacted. I'm sure may pumalakpak -- if only for my ka-bibo-han.
"Bibo" -- that's how we called mga batang makapal ang mukha then. Hehehehe. I think yun na ang last time na kumanta ako in front of (adoring???) public.  Ano daw sabi ng feelingera?

♥♥♥

During my internship, may lull sa patients and bored ang mga volunteer PTs, so pinakanta nila isa-isa ang mga interns (damned fascists!). I tried to beg off, saying that my singing voice is awful.

Pinakanta pa rin ako -- what did I tell you -- they were damned fascists!

Channeling Ariel...
Look at this stuff
Isn't it neat?
Wouldn't you think my collection's complete?
Wouldn't you thi...
*SCREECHING HALT*

Hindi ko pa tapos ang first stanza, pinatigil na ako, saying, "oo nga, sintunado ka nga."

Well, that was humiliating. Hahahahaha!

♥♥♥

I remembered all this because Sharkteeth will have her singing recital on Sunday. When I enrolled her in singing class, all I wanted was for her to learn a song or two, para naman pag pinakanta sa school, or during internship(!), she'd be able to sing without getting humiliated. Thankfully, parang natututo naman. Slight. Di pwedeng isali sa singing contest, true, but hindi na rin mapapahiya sa class.

*Madear, baka si S na ang sagot sa panalangin mo.*

Related story: When I told Madear that boyfriend ko na si TheHusband (obviously, TheBoyfriend pa lang sya nun), and she learned that he's Cebuano (who, in her mind, are stereotyped as good singers), she immediately asked, "Marunong kumanta?" Unfortunately, hindi.

Medyo ninenerbyos ako sa recital ni S kasi she just started last July, and I think she's still unprepared for this. Isip ko huwag muna syang pasalihin. But since she's not stressing or nervous about it, excited actually, okay fine, join na. I just hope the audience will be gracious to her if she murders the song. Hehehehe!

Break a leg, my dear girl! Do it for lola.

  1. I still have to hear Sharkteeth sing, but I'm hoping she'll do well if only to calm or mollify your mom (and to spare your nerves) LOL!

  2. Ang pangarap lang ng mom ko ay may marunong kumanta sa pamilya...and she's generous naman with the definition of "marunong." :)

  3. Naku kaya pala magkasundo tayo, sintunado rin ako! Hahaha. Actually, maganda talaga ang voice ko, out of tune lang. Hahaha, ang feelingera ko diba.

P.S. Good luck sa recital ni S. Sana hindi sya nagmana sa inyo ni The Husband. Joke. Kaya nya yan, practice lang. :)

  4. Hahahaha! Walang basagan ng trip. Kung gusto mong kumanta, gora lang. Ako kelangan sigurong lasinging ng todo bago mapakanta. I don't even go to karaokes for fear na pakantahin ako.

I'd love to hear from you, good or bad. And remember, if you can dish it, you better be able to take it!
